Reconfigurable Decoder for LDPC and Polar Codes - 2018

ABSTRACT:

With low-density parity-check (LDPC) code and polar code selected as the standard codes for 5G eMBB situation, one challenge is how to boost the hardware efficiency when both decoders are needed by one system. Since LDPC and polar codes can be decoded with belief propagation (BP) algorithms, this similarity permits us to design a reconfigurable decoder, which will decode both codes at the price of solely one decoder. Numerical and implementation results are given during this paper to point out that the proposed decoder achieves higher hardware potency than stand-alone LDPC or polar decoder, while not harming the error performance.
