Transformer-less UPFC modulation and control PROJECT TITLE : Modulation and Control of Transformer less UPFC ABSTRACT: For the novel transformerless unified power flow controller (UPFC), a modulation and control approach has been provided in this study. The standard UPFC, which comprises of two back-to-back inverters, requires bulky and frequently complicated zigzag transformers for isolation and to achieve high power ratings with desirable voltage waveforms, as is well known. A entirely transformerless UPFC based on two cascade multilevel inverters has been developed to overcome this issue. The new UPFC has a number of advantages over old technology, including transformerless, small weight, high efficiency, cheap cost, and fast dynamic response.. Modulation and control for this transformerless UPFC are the focus here, including optimal fundamental frequency modulation for minimal THD and high efficiency, independent active and reactive power management over the transmission line, dc-link voltage balancing control, and more. Experiments on a 4160-V test setup show that the new UPFC with the proposed control approach works as expected. In this work, both steady-state and dynamic-response results will be presented.
