Type-2 Fuzzy Logic: Challenges and Misconceptions [Discussion Forum]


This material is predicated on contributions by a range of folks as well as Janet Aisbett, Humberto Bustince, Oscar Castillo, Jonathan M. Garibaldi, Hani Hagras, Vladik Kreinovich, Jerry M. Mendel, Frank Rhee, Terry Rickard, Woei Wan Tan and Christian Wagner as well as notably discussions at a Panel Session at the 201one IEEE Symposium on Advances in Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Systems organized by Garibaldi, Hagras and Rhee. This paper focuses on the challenges of theoretical underpinning together with notation, learning sort-2 sets and systems and broadening the areas where kind-2 system are applied. The misconceptions we have a tendency to discuss are around computational performance of sort-2 systems and notion that kind-two systems are supposed to exchange kind-one fuzzy systems.
