PROJECT TITLE :

Adapting Team-Based Learning for Application in the Basic Electric Circuit Theory Sequence

ABSTRACT:

Team-primarily based learning (TBL) could be a form of student-targeted active learning in which students independently study new conceptual material before it is treated in the classroom, and then subsequently pay considerable classroom time operating in teams on increasingly difficult issues and applications based mostly on that new material. TBL provides students with opportunities to not solely learn course content higher than within the ancient lecture-primarily based setting, but additionally to develop various transferable skilled skills, like self-directed freelance learning, downside solving, and interpersonal team skills. As a result of of these potential benefits, TBL was custom-made as the principal teaching and learning strategy in an exceedingly 2-course sophomore-level electrical circuit theory sequence, where it has been used since 2010. This paper describes beneficial changes that have evolved in the implementation of TBL within the circuit theory sequence. Those changes are primarily based, in half, on student evaluations of the strategy, which are described. Finally, instruments used to assess student learning within the TBL-taught courses also are described. They give evaluation information that suggests the described revised version of TBL is an efficient means to facilitate learning of each technical content and many professional skills within the sophomore-level electric circuit theory sequence.
