Soil Salinity Characterization Using Polarimetric InSAR Coherence: Case Studies in Tunisia and Morocco PROJECT TITLE :Soil Salinity Characterization Using Polarimetric InSAR Coherence: Case Studies in Tunisia and MoroccoABSTRACT:The phenomenon of soil salinization in semi-arid regions is obtaining amplified and accentuated by both anthropogenic practices and climate change. Land salinization mapping and monitoring using conventional ways are insufficient and troublesome. Our work aims to check the potential of artificial aperture radar (SAR) for mapping and monitoring of the spatio-temporal dynamics of soil salinity using interferometry. Our contribution during this paper consists of a statistical relationship that we have a tendency to establish between field salinity measurement and InSAR coherence based on an empirical analysis. For experimental validation, 2 sites were selected: one) the region of Mahdia (central Tunisia) and a couple of) the plain of Tadla (central Morocco). Both sites underwent three ground campaigns simultaneously with 3 Radarsat-two SAR image acquisitions. The results show that it is potential to estimate the temporal change in soil electrical conductivity (EC) from SAR pictures through the InSAR technique. It has been shown that the radar signal is additional sensitive to soil salinity in HH polarization employing a tiny incidence angle. However, for the HV polarization, a giant angle of incidence is additional suitable. This is, underneath considering the minimal influence of roughness and moisture surfaces, for a given InSAR coherence. Did you like this research project?
