This approach raises several problems thanks to the tight coupling between network and information access points, in addition because the paradigm shift towards information-oriented services, heterogeneous deployments and network densification. A logical separation between control and data planes is seen as a promising answer that would overcome these issues, by providing information services underneath the umbrella of a coverage layer. This article presents a holistic survey of existing literature on the management-knowledge separation architecture (CDSA) for cellular radio access networks. As a beginning purpose, we have a tendency to discuss the basics, concepts, and general structure of the CDSA. Then, we have a tendency to point out limitations of the traditional design in futuristic deployment scenarios. Furthermore, we have a tendency to gift and critically discuss the work that has been done to investigate potential benefits of the CDSA, with its technical challenges and enabling technologies.
