In order to improve power quality in low-voltage distribution grids, a voltage regulator was developed

PROJECT TITLE :

A Voltage Regulator for Power Quality Improvement in Low-Voltage Distribution Grids

ABSTRACT:

For low-voltage distribution grids, this paper presents a voltage-controlled distribution static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM)-based voltage regulator. The voltage regulator is designed to meet the grid code temporarily, deferring unplanned investments until a permanent solution to the regulation issues can be planned. A three-phase four-wire voltage-source inverter and a second-order low-pass filter make up the power stage. Three output voltage loops with active damping and two dc bus voltage loops make up the control strategy. The proposed control strategy also includes two loops: the concept of minimum power point tracking (mPPT) and the frequency loop. The mPPT allows the voltage regulator to operate at its lowest power point, reducing the amount of reactive compensation that is circulated. Using only the information available at the point-of-common coupling, the frequency loop allows the voltage regulator to be independent of grid voltage information, particularly the grid angle. The frequency stability, regulation capacity, and features of the mPPT algorithm for linear and nonlinear loads are all demonstrated in the experiments.
