Based on the ACDC Reactor, a Bridge-Type Solid-State Fault Current Limiter

PROJECT TITLE :

Bridge-Type Solid-State Fault Current Limiter Based on ACDC Reactor

ABSTRACT:

Based on a single series reactor, this study presents a novel bridge-type solid-state fault current limiter (BSSFCL). There are two rectifiers and a reactor in the proposed BSFCL. In regular operation, this reactor is used as a dc reactor, while in emergency situations, it is employed as an ac reactor. Its minimal impedance in normal operation mode and its high impedance during a fault interval are benefits of the proposed BSSFCL over the existing dc reactor-type FCLs. In other words, the proposed BSSFCL works in dc mode during normal operation and switches to ac mode during fault intervals. Switching this way reduces the transient recovery voltage and introduces a lot of resistance during the time of a fault. For simulations, MATLAB/Simulink and a prototype are utilised, and the findings are verified and BSSFCL performance is demonstrated.
