HESS in a Medium Voltage DC System: A Novel Virtual Resistor and Capacitor Droop Control PROJECT TITLE : A Novel Virtual Resistor and Capacitor Droop Control for HESS in Medium Voltage DC System ABSTRACT: The shipboard medium-voltage dc (MVdc) system relies heavily on the hybrid energy storage system (HESS) to supply backup power, buffer major load changes, and improve power quality. VRCD control for HESS, which includes a battery, supercapacitor, and flywheel is proposed in this study for the first time. In contrast to conventional droop management, it allows the generator and numerous types of energy storages (ESs) with diverse characteristics to respond to multiple-frequency imbalanced power. The design approach for the VRCD control is explained in full. Secondary charge recovery control is also recommended to ensure that ESs have a large energy reserve for future demand. The suggested control strategy for a shipboard MVdc is tested under varying loads, such as the propulsion motor and the pulsed load, in order to verify its effectiveness..
