Comparison of Detailed Modeling Techniques for MMC Employed on VSCHVDC Schemes - 2015 PROJECT TITLE: Comparison of Detailed Modeling Techniques for MMC Employed on VSCHVDC Schemes - 2015 ABSTRACT: Modular multilevel converters (MMC) are presently the converter topology of choice for voltage-supply converter high-voltage direct-current (VSC-HVDC) transmission schemes due to their terribly high potency. These converters are complicated, yet fast and detailed electromagnetic transients simulation models are necessary for the research and development of these transmission schemes. Excellent work has been done in this space, though very little objective comparison of the models proposed has nevertheless been undertaken. This paper compares for the primary time, the 3 leading techniques for producing detailed MMC VSC-HVDC models in terms of their accuracy and simulation speed for several typical simulation cases. In addition, an improved model is proposed that additional improves the computational potency of 1 methodology. This paper concludes by presenting proof-based recommendations for that detailed models are most suitable for that specific studies. Did you like this research project?
