A Novel Bi-Directional AC/DC Converter used for Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) - 2017


A completely unique bi-directional AC/DC converter topology is presented during this paper. This circuit topology offers one-stage non-isolated resolution for power conversion, appropriate for ESS applications. In the proposed power circuitry, the DC-bus voltage can be higher or not up to the height of the AC voltage. The detailed analysis reveals that the converter characteristics are completely different within the rectification and inversion modes, hence it needs totally different control ways for every mode of operation. Within the rectification mode, only the DC-bus voltage control is employed whereas in the inversion mode, each the DC-bus voltage management further because the grid current management have for use for generating the converter switching pulses. The operation of the proposed topology is validated through simulation and experimental results.
