Characterizing Privacy Risks of Mobile Apps with Sensitivity Analysis - 2018

ABSTRACT:

Given the emerging concerns over app privacy-connected risks, major app distribution providers (e.g., Microsoft) are exploring approaches to assist finish users to create informed decision before installation. This is often totally different from existing approaches of merely trusting users to form the correct call. We have a tendency to build on the direction of risk rating as the manner to speak app-specific privacy risks to finish users. To this end, we propose to use sensitivity analysis to infer whether or not an app requests sensitive on-device resources/ data that are not required for its expected functionality. Our system, Privet, addresses challenges in efficiently achieving take a look at coverage and automated privacy risk assessment.
