Development and Scalability Evaluation of an Ontology-based Context Representation Service


The state of art in context-aware computing has argued that ontologies are the most suitable technique for the modeling phase of the life cycle of context info. This paper proposes Hermes Widget, that provides an ontologybased context info representation service. The aim is to research the impact of the complexity of an ontology-primarily based context modeling in a real world state of affairs. A scalability analysis of the Hermes Widget service is performed using a well-known digital archive of physiological signals and connected data for monitoring patients in ICUs. By demonstrating a linear growth of total time for context representation in contrast with an exponential growth of context info input, the experiments shown the scalable behavior of the Hermes Widget service. Experiments' results additionally shown that the ontology-based mostly modeling employed in Hermes Widget can be employed in an economical manner by providing several edges to applications of that context modeling formalism.
