Reversible Color Spaces without Increased Bit Depth and Their Adaptive Selection

PROJECT TITLE :

Reversible Color Spaces without Increased Bit Depth and Their Adaptive Selection

ABSTRACT:

The economical compression of color pictures requires a processing step exploiting the correlation between the color elements. This is often typically realized employing a color transformation. In lossless compression systems, the reversible color transformation increases the bit-depth for chrominance elements from eight to 9 bits per pixels. This may be avoided by using modulo arithmetic, while keeping the property of reversibility. This letter investigates the impact of these modulo operations on the compression performance, compares totally different processing structures, and proposes a replacement adaptive choice of suitable color areas. It's shown that (i) the limitation of the bit depth usually results in lower compression performance, (ii) the drop in performance depends on the processing structure used, and (iii) the common performance will be improved by the proposed adaptive selection of the colour house.
