PROJECT TITLE :

An Overcurrent Protection Relay Based on Local Measurements

ABSTRACT:

Power grid overcurrent relays are used to shield the interphase faults as well as single-part-to-ground faults. But, these relays don't guarantee protection due to the rapidly increasing short circuits which could be the consequence of demanding more and a lot of power usage by the business and residential users. During this paper, a methodology is presented to enhance the functionality of the overcurrent relay. This technique relies on locally accessible measurements. It will not need any on-line-info and Communication facilities relating to varying short-circuit levels caused by distributed energy resource infeeds. This technique is adaptive and uses a least sq. algorithm to determine the Thevenin circuit equivalent using local measurements. The proposed method is evaluated, and also the results indicate that the Thevenin-equivalent-based mostly methodology provides an improvement to the relay tripping time.
