Nanocolumnar growth of thin films deposited at oblique angles: Beyond the tangent rule

ABSTRACT:

The expansion of nanostructured physical vapor deposited thin films at oblique angles is changing into a hot topic for the event of a big selection of applications. Up to currently, empirical relations, like the therefore-referred to as tangent rule, have been uncritically applied to account for the event of the nanostructure of these thin films even when they don't accurately reproduce most experimental results. In this paper, the expansion of thin films at oblique angles is analyzed under the premises of a recently proposed surface trapping mechanism.
