PROJECT TITLE :

UHF RFID Localization Based on Phase Evaluation of Passive Tag Arrays

ABSTRACT:

This paper presents a a pair of-D localization system based mostly on part-of-arrival evaluation of passive ultrahigh frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) transponders. To handle the anomaly caused by part evaluation, many tags are organized to make the same linear array. A multiple input multiple output system, where sequentially every frontend is configured to work as transmitter, while the remaining frontends serve as receivers, is used to enable position estimation. For proof of concept, a local position measurement system demonstrator was designed comprising standard passive EPCglobal Class-one Gen-two UHF RFID tags, one industrial off-the-shelf RFID reader, many transceiver frontends, baseband hardware, and Signal Processing. Measurements were meted out in an interior workplace atmosphere, where the $3.5~rm m times 2.5$ m measurement zone was surrounded by drywalls and concrete floor and ceiling, and the experimental results showed robust and correct localization with a root-mean-sq. deviation of zero.011 m and a maximum error of zero.032 m. These experimental results were confirmed by simulations, that were performed to work out the boundaries of the system accuracy.
