A Comparison of AC and HVDC Options for the Connection of Offshore Wind Generation in Great Britain PROJECT TITLE :A Comparison of AC and HVDC Options for the Connection of Offshore Wind Generation in Great BritainABSTRACT:This paper presents a comparison of two sorts of cable affiliation of a foreign offshore wind farm to a transmission system: AC and HVDC. The requirements of relevant industry standards in Great Britain (GB) that drive a affiliation style and, hence, its prices are highlighted together with an analysis of the ways in that AC cable connections might be made to comply whereas facilitating the export of active power. Dynamic studies investigating responses to grid-facet short-circuit faults show that, in the actual situations studied, an AC association of a wind farm in place of a large synchronous generator is marginally detrimental whereas an HVDC affiliation is useful. A comparison of prices shows that the crossover distance at which HVDC is cheaper than AC for wind farms of various sizes happens at longer distances than have hitherto commonly been assumed, and AC connections profit from reactive compensation not only at the purpose of common coupling and wind farm end, however also at the connection midpoint.
