Validation and Intercomparison of SARAL/AltiKa and PISTACH-Derived Coastal Wave Heights Using In-Situ Measurements

ABSTRACT:

SARAL/AltiKa, the primary Ka-band altimeter, now provides an opportunity to check wave characteristics in the world's coastal ocean with improved accuracy. In the current work, AltiKa-derived vital wave heights (Hs) in the coastal ocean and inland water bodies are analyzed using in-situ measurements. Analysis shows that AltiKa measured Hs agree well with the in-situ measurements with high correlation (0.98), low bias (vi cm), and low RMSE (nineteen cm) within the coastal ocean, and therefore the performance is extremely consistent across totally different coastal zones within the 3 tropical oceans. AltiKa performance is found to be very sensible (RMSE = twenty four cm and correlation = zero.ninety four) close to to the coast (<;two km). In addition to the analysis of AltiKa Hs, another coastal altimetry product, Innovative Processing System Prototype for Coastal and Hydrology Applications (PISTACH)-derived Hs using Jason-a pair of altimeter, has additionally been validated with in-situ measurements.
