PROJECT TITLE :

A Theory of Information Quality and its Implementation in Systems Engineering

ABSTRACT:

This paper introduces a theory of data quality to elucidate requirements engineering behavior observed throughout the systems engineering (SE) method. Needs are technical statements that inform system design, implementation, and integration. The which means of needs data has relevancy to the SE drawback. The requirements entropy framework (REF) implements the theory and accounts for the that means of necessities data in terms of its cumulative quality. The necessities quality distribution reflects the cumulative quality and determines the wants entropy, the amount of possibilities, and the extra info required to reach the required finish state. The specified finish state is occupied by needs having all specified quality attributes. The necessities entropy, uncertainty, and needed info decrease as engineering effort is input into the process. The impact of added, revised, and deleted necessities can be estimated or measured from the change in entropy, uncertainty, or data. Results from laptop simulation experiments recommend that the REF may be a useful technique for monitoring requirements trends, forecasting when the desired finish state can be reached, and estimating requirements engineering effort for system development programs.
