Micrometer Wire Assisted Inline Mach–Zehnder Interferometric Curvature Sensor


A highly sensitive curvature sensor primarily based on the inline Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) adjoined with a micrometer wire taper is realized using all single mode fiber (SMF). Experimental results suggest that the addition of the SMF micrometer wire with MZI reduces the amount of the interference pattern from 39.27 to one.76 nm and will increase the amplitude sensitivity by twofold. The sensitivity of the proposed sensor is −eleven.92 dB/ $textm^-1$ and encompasses a resolution of $8.4times ten^-5~textm^mathrm -1^vphantom a$ in the curvature vary of 0–1 $textm^-1$ . The sensing setup is extremely stable and shows negligible hysteresis. The proposed sensor shows the negligible temperature sensitivity but zero.0008 dB/°C. All the SMF structure and intensity-based mostly interrogation technique makes the sensor a cost-effective various to the present curvature sensors.
