Multicent: A Multifunctional Incentive Scheme Adaptive to Diverse Performance Objectives for DTN Routing

ABSTRACT:

In Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs), nodes meet opportunistically and exchange packets solely when they meet with every alternative. Thus, routing is usually conducted in a store-carry-forward manner to take advantage of the scarce Communication opportunities. Thence, totally different packet routing ways, i.e., that packet to be forwarded or stored with priority, can result in totally different routing performance objectives, such as minimal average delay and maximal hit rate. On the opposite hand, incentive systems are necessary for DTNs since nodes might be selfish and might not be cooperative on packet forwarding/storage. But, current incentive systems for DTNs mainly specialize in encouraging nodes to participate in packet forwarding/storage however fail to further encourage nodes to follow a certain packet routing strategy to appreciate a routing performance objective. We tend to name the former as the first side of cooperation and also the latter because the second facet of cooperation in DTN routing. Therefore, in this paper, we have a tendency to 1st discuss the routing strategy that may understand different performance objectives when nodes are fully cooperative, i.e., are willing to follow both aspects of cooperation. We tend to then propose Multicent, a game theoretical incentive scheme which will encourage nodes to follow the 2 aspects of cooperation even after they are selfish. Basically, Multicent assigns credits for packet forwarding/storage in proportional to the priorities laid out in the routing strategy. Multicent also supports adjustable Quality of Service (QoS) for packet routing between specific sources and destinations. Intensive trace-driven experimental results verify the effectiveness of Multicent.
