Influence of Voltage Balancing on the Temperature Distribution of a Li-Ion Battery Module

ABSTRACT:

Temperature is one in all the key factors when operating with lithium-ion battery modules because of its influence in safety, performance, and lifespan issues in these devices. High operating temperatures cut back the on the market capability of each cell at intervals the module after many cycles thanks to aging; nonuniform temperature distributions in the module cause different aging processes in each cell, and therefore it can be not possible to require advantage of all the energy offered in the Li-ion storage system, as a result of the foremost aged cell can limit the offered energy. This paper is targeted on the minimization of the maximum temperature gradient of a battery module for high depth of discharge applications to avoid totally different aging processes of the cells among the module. Voltage balancing is proposed as a answer for this purpose, and totally different strategies and their results are presented in this paper.
