ABSTRACT:

The Assistant Commandant for Human Resources at the US Coast Guard discusses efforts to implement and support both the US Department of Homeland Security's Information Technology Strategic Human Capital Plan and the US Coast Guard's STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) diversity outreach and recruitment strategies. In particular, he explains how the Coast Guard's environment of inclusion is integral to the successful implementation of the plan by valuing IT professionals and understanding the importance of their role in accomplishing the Coast Guard's mission.
