Numerical Study of Pillar Shapes in Deterministic Lateral Displacement Microfluidic Arrays for Spherical Particle Separation

PROJECT TITLE :

Numerical Study of Pillar Shapes in Deterministic Lateral Displacement Microfluidic Arrays for Spherical Particle Separation

ABSTRACT:

Deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) arrays containing shaped pillars have been found to be more effective in biomedical sample separation. This study aims to numerically investigate the interplay between particles and microfluidic arrays, and to search out out the key factors in determining the crucial size of a DLD device with formed pillars. A brand new formula is so proposed to estimate the crucial size for spherical particle separation in this sort of recent DLD microfluidic arrays. The simulation results show that both rectangular and i-formed arrays have considerably smaller vital sizes. The ratio of sub-channel widths is additionally found to play an vital role in reducing the critical sizes. This paves a valuable manner toward planning high-performance DLD microfluidic arrays.
