Control Strategy of Wind Turbine Based on Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator

ABSTRACT:

Using a permanent magnet synchronous generator and full-scale power converter, this research studies a variable-speed wind turbine in a stand-alone system. The DC connection of the full-scale power converter is coupled to an energy storage system (ESS) incorporating a battery and a fuel cell-electrolyzer combo. This stand-alone system relies on a wind turbine as its major source of power, with a battery and FC-electrolyzer combo as a backup and long-term storage system, respectively. When operating in a stand-alone system, this variable speed wind turbine can be controlled using this control approach, in which the generator-side converter and the ESS work together to meet the loads' requirements. Controlling the DC-link voltage of the full-scale power converter in a limited range is possible thanks to this control method. PSCAD/simulation EMTDC's tool is used to create a stand-alone model of a variable speed wind turbine. An evaluation of the stand-alone wind turbine system's dynamic performance is made using simulation data.
