Stability-Constrained Adaptive Droop for Power Sharing in AC-MTDC Grids

ABSTRACT:

Following a (N-1) contingency (e.g., a converter loss), the system planners and operators are concerned about the safety of AC-multiterminal dc (MTDC) grids. It is possible to use adaptive droop control in the event of a converter loss so that the healthy converters can bear the weight of the power disparity effectively. When numerous converters are linked to the AC grid and one of them goes out, certain values of the droop coefficients may cause the AC grid to become unstable. Following a converter loss in an MTDC grid, this study provides an adaptive droop strategy for power sharing that is stability-constrained. In order to limit the adaptive droop gains that can result from a dynamic security assessment done by system operators, a trajectory sensitivity analysis-based technique is given. Simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink models show that the proposed approach for a post-contingency system is highly resilient.
