The aging of electric grids is influenced by many factors, e.g., transients, short- and long-duration variations, the load flow and pattern, voltage imbalances, waveform distortions, voltage fluctuations, and power frequency variations. In many regions the major parts of the medium-voltage (MV) grids consist of cable systems, one of the biggest assets of distribution companies. Electrical utilities usually adopt one of the following asset management and maintenance strategies [1]:
