Exploring Binary Code Sharing's Potential and Possibility in Mobile Computing

PROJECT TITLE :

Exploring Potential and Feasibility of Binary Code Sharing in Mobile Computing

ABSTRACT:

Mobile apps are experiencing phenomenal growth, and while these apps bring a wealth of services and functionalities to their users, they also bring with them significant performance and energy issues. Code sharing is a potentially useful solution to these problems, but the way it is currently practiced at the application level is rather restrictive. This paper presents the design, implementation, and deployment of a transparent machine code sharing for mobile devices. The paper also develops the transparent machine code sharing. SnapCode makes it possible to share machine code across a large number of different commercially available Android devices. Through the process of sharing and executing machine code, SnapCode is able to provide significant speed increases, with an average increase of 9.9X for one-time trial apps and an increase of up to 120X for regular uses of apps. In addition to this, it can reduce the amount of energy used by more than 80 percent.
