Edge Analytics in the Internet of Things

ABSTRACT:

High-data-rate sensors, like video cameras, are turning into ubiquitous in the Internet of Things. This text describes GigaSight, an Internet-scale repository of crowd-sourced video content, with sturdy enforcement of privacy preferences and access controls. The GigaSight architecture may be a federated system of VM-based cloudlets that perform video analytics at the edge of the Internet, so reducing the demand for ingress bandwidth into the cloud. Denaturing, that is an owner-specific reduction in fidelity of video content to preserve privacy, is one type of analytics on cloudlets. Content-based mostly indexing for search is another form of cloudlet-based mostly analytics. This article is half of a special issue on sensible spaces.
