Frequency Scan-Based Screening Method for Device Dependent Sub-Synchronous Oscillations

PROJECT TITLE :

Frequency Scan-Based Screening Method for Device Dependent Sub-Synchronous Oscillations

ABSTRACT:

This paper introduces a screening technique to work out the potential risk of interactions between a dynamic device and a generator with torsional oscillations. The proposed technique introduces a issue called the radiality issue (RF) which is an indicator of the radialness of the network between the device and therefore the generator. TheRF is calculated in the sub-synchronous frequency range and plotted against the frequency (RF curves). The RF curves can then be used for screening of torsional interactions between the generator and different dynamic devices. The critical worth for the RF is determined through a massive range of sensitivity studies on a check system. This method surpasses the accessible screening technique: unit interaction factor (UIF) calculations which is only applicable for inductive networks without series compensated lines.
