It provides railway-specific voice services, like railway emergency calls (RECs), furthermore because the European Train Management System (ETCS), that offers in-cab signaling and automatic train protection. Despite these options and services, GSM-R has major shortcomings. Therefore, various technologies are being thought of to replace GSM-R and become the following-generation railway mobile communication network.
