ABSTRACT:

There's a common discussion within the circuits world regarding whether or not the market drives technology advances (embodied by Edison's observation that "necessity is the mother or invention") or whether or not technical breakthroughs really produce new markets (embodied by the new invention looking for a "killer app"). Converter innovation during the last fifty years has seen tremendous contributions from each technology push and market pull forces. Reflecting on knowledge converter evolution through the lens of the converter market applications provides some fascinating views as to how we tend to came and may even supply some insights regarding what would possibly come back next.
