Increasing Students’ Awareness of Their Behavior in Online Learning Environments with Visualizations and Achievement Badges PROJECT TITLE :Increasing Students’ Awareness of Their Behavior in Online Learning Environments with Visualizations and Achievement BadgesABSTRACT:In online learning environments where automatic assessment is used, students typically resort to harmful study practices like procrastination and trial-and-error. During this paper, we tend to study two teaching interventions that were designed to address these issues in a very university-level pc science course. In the first intervention, we tend to used achievement badges, a kind of gamification, to reward students for submitting early, solving exercises with few iterations, and finishing the exercises with full points. Within the second intervention, we tend to used heatmap visualizations that show a prediction of the student's success if she or he continues to behave in the identical approach, based on knowledge from earlier courses. The results from a controlled experiment show that the heatmap visualizations had an impact on how early the students submitted their exercises and the way many points they earned from them. We tend to additionally observed that performance approach goal orientation correlated with an interest towards the achievement badges whereas performance avoidance correlated with an interest towards the visualizations. The results indicate that increasing students' awareness of their behavior can have a positive impact on their study practices and results. But, the identical sort of feedback could not suit all students as a result of of individual differences. Did you like this research project?
