PROJECT TITLE :

High-Stress Resistance Fiber Refractometer Based on MMF Sandwiched Between Two SMF Half-Tapers

ABSTRACT:

A simple and high-stress resistance fiber refractometer based mostly on the multimode fiber (MMF) intervening between 2 single-mode fiber (SMF) [*fr1]-tapers is interrogated and experimentally demonstrated. The generated interference fringe shifts toward longer wavelengths with the response sensitivity of 319.3 nm/RIU at the external refractive index (RI) of 1.33three, and therefore the response sensitivity monotonically increases to 500.half-dozen nm/RIU when the RI varies from one.333 to 1.41one. A lot of importantly, the endurable longitudinal strain of the fiber refractometer might exceed 4000 before breaking, which is just a little below that of the ancient SMF–MMF–SMF configuration. Additionally, the effect of the MMF length on the RI sensitivity is also investigated, and the theoretical analysis shows the same tendency with the experimental results.
