Risk informed design modification of dynamic thermal rating system

ABSTRACT:

Future grids will be operated a lot of closer to their security limits because of the ever increasing power demands and also the restrictions on land and space to build a lot of transmission corridors. As one of the numerous good grid technologies, the dynamic thermal rating (DTR) system of transmission lines offers the answer to extend line current capacity while not infringing the conductor's most operating temperature. Hence, it has emerged as a standard answer for the aforementioned challenges. Attributable to that, there's a sturdy would like to assess the integrity of this technology. For this reason, this study presents a systematic framework for assessing the reliability and the chance of a DTR system. The research was allotted in two parts and is in a position to optimise the chance and therefore the reliability (cost) of the DTR system. Additionally, a weather estimation model is proposed to estimate the weather data when the DTR sensors aren't functional. This is contrary to the prevailing literature which suggests that conservative assumptions be created. The results show that the proposed weather estimation model avoids overestimation of the DTR system risk.
