PROJECT TITLE :

High Gain DC–DC Converter Based on the Cockcroft–Walton Multiplier

ABSTRACT:

Recent advancements in renewable energy have created a would like for both high step-up and high-potency dc-dc converters. These wants have sometimes been addressed with converters using high-frequency transformers to realize the required gain. The transformer style, but, is challenging. This paper presents a high step-up current fed converter based mostly on the classical Cockcroft-Walton (CW) multiplier. The capacitor ladder permits for high voltage gains without a transformer. The cascaded structure limits the voltage stresses in the converter stages, even for high gains. Being current-fed, the converter (unlike ancient CW multipliers) permits the output voltage to be efficiently controlled. Additionally, the converter supports multiple input operation while not modifying the topology. This makes the converter especially appropriate for photovoltaic applications where high gain, high potency, tiny converter size, and most power point tracking are needed. Design equations, a dynamic model, and attainable management algorithms are presented. The converter operation was verified using digital simulation and a 450-W prototype converter.
