A Test Methodology for Evaluating Cognitive Radio Systems

ABSTRACT:

The cognitive radio (CR) field currently lacks a uniform end-user test methodology that's repeatable, flexible, and effective across multiple CR architectures. Furthermore, the CR field lacks a appropriate device-agnostic framework that enables testing of an integrated CR system and not solely specific parts. This paper presents a CR test methodology, known as the Cognitive RAdio Check Methodology (CRATM), to address these issues. CRATM proposes to use behavior-based testing in which cognition could be measured by evaluating each primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU) (i.e., the CR under take a look at) performance. Knowledge on behavior-primarily based testing are collected and evaluated. An SU combine and a PU radio try are implemented using the Wireless Open-Access Analysis Platform (WARP) and the WARPLab software running in MATLAB. The PU is employed to form 5 distinct radio-frequency environments utilizing slender-band, wideband, and noncontiguous waveforms. The SU response to the PU created environments is measured. The SU implements a easy cognitive engine (CE) that comes with energy-detection spectrum sensing. The result of the CE on both SU and PU performance is measured and evaluated.
