A Hybrid Framework for Short-Term Risk Assessment of Wind-Integrated Composite Power Systems

ABSTRACT:

An analytical and simulation method is used in this paper to create a novel paradigm for evaluating wind-integrated composite power systems' short-term risk. First, an analytical approach known as the area risk method is used to include the detailed dependability models of individual components in a Power System into the hybrid framework under consideration. Additionally, a new approach to short-term risk assessment for wind generating has been presented. The area risk method's component hazards are then calculated using a non-sequential Monte-Carlo simulation technique. It is thus possible to incorporate the transmission system's contingencies and limits that are typically ignored in the area risk technique. The cross entropy optimization is used to find the sampling technique's parameters, which considerably improves the suggested framework's computing performance. For more realistic short-term risk indices, case studies performed on a modified 24-bus IEEE Reliability Test System justify the need for extensive wind generation reliability modelling and consideration of the transmission system. In addition, the suggested framework's computing performance is many orders of magnitude better than any existing comparable method.
