Control of Ripple Eliminators to Improve thePower Quality of DC Systems and Reducethe Usage of Electrolytic Capacitors - 2016

PROJECT TITLE :

Control of Ripple Eliminators to Improve thePower Quality of DC Systems and Reducethe Usage of Electrolytic Capacitors - 2016

ABSTRACT:

The downside of voltage/current ripples has become a primary power quality issue for dc systems, which could seriously degrade the performance on both the supply aspect and the load facet and result in reliability concerns. During this paper, a single-part Pulse width modulation-controlled rectifier is taken as an example to analyze how active control ways will improve the ability quality of dc systems, scale back voltage ripples, and, at the same time, scale back the usage of electrolytic capacitors. The concept of ripple eliminators recently proposed within the literature is more developed, and also the ratio of capacitance reduction is quantified. With such ripple eliminators, this power quality downside is formulated as a control downside to actively divert the ripple current on the dc bus. The main focus of this paper is to research how advanced control methods could improve the performance of ripple eliminators. An advanced controller on the idea of the repetitive control is proposed for one doable implementation of ripple eliminators in the continual current mode (CCM). Experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the strategy with comparison to another ripple eliminator operated in the discontinuous current mode. It has been shown that the proposed instantaneous ripple-current diversion in CCM leads to a virtually fourfold improvement of performance.
