A Shade-Tolerant MPPT with High Performance based on Current-Mode Control

PROJECT TITLE :

A High Performance Shade-Tolerant MPPT Based on Current-Mode Control

ABSTRACT:

For photovoltaic (PV) applications, a high-performance shade-tolerant maximum power point tracking (STMPPT) technique is proposed. Two feedback control loops are used to regulate the PV array current with the average current-mode control (ACMC). Electronic dc-dc power converters benefit greatly from the current-mode control technique. There are two ways to use the STMPPT method as it has been proposed. Under normal irradiance conditions, the ACMC with the perturb and observe (P&O) MPPT algorithm works in a local MPPT mode. A global MPPT subroutine effectively scans the PV profile when the PV array is anticipated to be partially shadowed. Simple changes to the ACMC-based P&O algorithm are all that's required to make this work.. Observations of I-V characteristics provide the foundation for the new developments. It is hoped that by employing I-V characteristics, a smaller search space will be created, the algorithm will be independent of shading conditions and PV array arrangement, and partial shading will be automatically recognised. The suggested STMPPT method is able to track the global maximum power point in a very efficient and reliable manner. In addition, it is able to operate in a dynamic environment without losing its ability to accurately follow its path. PV converter goods could benefit from its simplicity and independence. Different operational circumstances that could be encountered in outdoor PV installations are simulated and experimentally evaluated.
