Congestion Avoidance and Load Balancing in Content Placement and Request Redirection for Mobile CDN - 2018

ABSTRACT:

With the development of network function virtualization and software-outlined network standards, the mobile network operators are inquisitive about integrating content delivery network (CDN) functionalities into the mobile network to enhance their capability for supporting content oriented services. We take into account a mobile CDN system, where Base Stations (BSs) are equipped with storage for replicating content. In such a system, BSs cooperation in replying user requests through backhaul links could be a widely adopted mechanism. Blindly redirect user requests upon content placement can cause hold up. So, congestion avoidance and cargo balancing is an important issue to be tackled during this scenario. We tend to investigated the joint optimization downside of content placement and request redirection for the BS-based mobile CDN. Specifically, every BS maintains a transmission queue for replying requests issued from different BSs. Network congestion and BSs load balancing will be jointly thought of through guaranteeing network stability. We use the stochastic optimization model to minimize the long-term time-average transmission value underneath network stability constraints. By using the Lyapunov optimization technique, we tend to transform the long-term downside into a collection of linear programs solved in every short time length, and we tend to develop an on-line algorithm to efficiently decide content placement and request redirection while not requiring a priori information on the random network state data. Through our theoretical analysis, the performance of the algorithm on optimality and network stability is given. The analysis confirms that our solution will achieve low transmission cost, whilst avoiding congestion and balancing traffic masses.
