A New Approach to Edge Detection Based on Diffusion

PROJECT TITLE :

A Novel Scheme Based on the Diffusion to Edge Detection

ABSTRACT:

This paper presents a new method for detecting edges based on the physical rule of diffusion. Data-based approaches, such as Deep Neural Networks, require enormous amounts of labelled ground truth and a lot of resources for training in order to be effective. Traditional methods, on the other hand, rely on the gradient of the grayscale or colour of photographs to perform the task, utilising various mathematical tools. Rather than looking at an object's outline as a gradient of grey or colour, our method treats the edge detection as a characteristic of an energy diffusing in the space of media like a charge-coupled device. Using the characteristic function of diffusion, the energy information may be retrieved. The method does a great job at preserving images' structural information. It has a unified mathematical framework for images' edge identification under many settings, such as multiscales, diverse light conditions, and so on, because it is derived from the physical property of images. In addition, it is computationally simple.
