Unsynchronised fault-location technique for three-terminal lines

PROJECT TITLE :

Unsynchronised fault-location technique for three-terminal lines

ABSTRACT:

This study describes a brand new fault-location technique using negative-sequence voltage for 3-terminal lines. The ratios between the negative-sequence voltage magnitudes measured at each terminal are utilised to initial verify the faulted section and then to estimate the precise fault location among the section. Since the present data isn't deployed, the influence of inherent errors of current transformers can be avoided. The proposed methodology can accurately find the unbalanced faults, that's, single-section-to-ground, double-section-to-ground, and part-to-phase faults, regardless of the fault resistance and pre-fault conditions and without any want to identify the fault kind. The strategy requires only the negative-sequence reactance behind each terminal that can be estimated by the short-circuit analysis with a suitable accuracy. Reliability and practicality of the proposed methodology make it an attractive possibility to incorporate in numerical protective relays. Simulation experiments with totally different fault cases reveal the capability of the proposed methodology.
