PROJECT TITLE :

Novel butt-lapped PET-mica tape turn insulation for high voltage motors

ABSTRACT:

Flip insulation for prime voltage motor coils is normally a glass cloth-backed mica paper tape that's applied to the magnet wire in step with specified fabrication strategies [one]-[4]. In contrast to the most insulation, turn insulation is abundant thinner and more simply broken throughout production because there are various processing steps. Hence, there's more attention paid to the protection of the turn insulation. Conventionally, turn insulation is protected with a double glass yarn that's applied to the wires [five]. For instance, flip insulation for 6-kV motors is lapped with a double layer of glass yarn plus polyimide film, and for ten-kV motors, a double layer of glass yarn and PET-mica tape is used. However, these conventional flip insulations have many drawbacks; specifically, the flip insulation is easily damaged throughout coil production, and impregnation of vacuum-pressure impregnation (VPI) resin is poor [6]-[nine]. Hence, it is desirable to eliminate the glass yarn insulation layer and use PET-mica tape directly as the flip insulation, which conjointly has the extra benefits of excellent mechanical properties, good impulse strength and corona resistance, higher voltage endurance, and lower price.
