Blockchain-based Secure Mutual Authentication Scheme Design for Metaverse Environments

PROJECT TITLE :

Design of Secure Mutual Authentication Scheme for Metaverse Environments using Blockchain

ABSTRACT:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in participation in a variety of activities that take place remotely, such as online education and meetings. However, because traditional online environments typically offer only straightforward streaming services through the use of cameras and microphones, there are restrictions on the physical expression of oneself as well as on the ability to experience real-world activities such as economic and cultural pursuits. Metaverse environments, which are a type of virtual reality that take place in three dimensions and make use of avatars, have recently garnered an increasing amount of attention as a potential solution to these issues. As a result, numerous metaverse platforms like Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite have been emerging to provide a variety of services to their respective user bases. The fact that users and platform servers communicate through public channels makes such metaverse environments susceptible to a variety of security flaws that could be exploited by malicious actors. In addition, each platform server is responsible for managing sensitive user data such as identity, passwords, and any biometric information that may be associated with the user. Using blockchain technology, we design a system model that can both guarantee secure communication and manage user identification data in a transparent manner in metaverse environments. This model is presented in this paper. In addition, we propose a mutual authentication system that makes use of biometric data and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). This system will allow for encrypted communication to take place between users and platform servers, as well as encrypted interactions between avatars and other avatars. We perform an informal security analysis, Burrows–Abadi–Needham (BAN) logic, a Real-or-Random (ROR) model, and Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications in order to demonstrate that the proposed mutual authentication scheme is secure (AVISPA). In addition, we compare the proposed scheme's computation costs, communication costs, and security features with other schemes that operate in environments that are analogous to the one we have in mind. The findings indicate that the proposed scheme is superior to other schemes in terms of its ability to provide a wider variety of security features, as well as its lower costs associated with computation and communication. Therefore, our proposed system has the potential to be utilized in the provision of secure environments within the metaverse.
