ABSTRACT:

This article discusses the colocated coexistence of worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) and Bluetooth in a mobile handset. It also proposes a measurement methodology that leads to a fundamental understanding of how WiMAX and Bluetooth interfere with each other in a colocated coexistence scenario. By focusing on the physical/media access control (PHY/MAC) layer performance indicators, the measurement study reveals a more detailed pattern of mutual interference and more exact degrees of interference (both WiMAX-to-Bluetooth and Bluetooth-to-WiMAX interferences) when compared with previous modeling and simulation works. The details of a couple of MAC-layer solutions for enhancing the coexistence performance in terms of radio utilization, which are verified by the measurements accepted in the industry, are also presented.
