Systems Thinking About Systems Thinking A Proposal for a Common Language PROJECT TITLE :Systems Thinking About Systems Thinking A Proposal for a Common LanguageABSTRACT:The concept of systems thinking (and its embodiment in systems approach and systems science) dates from the historical origins of engineering, policy, and philosophy. However, in contrast to mathematics, physics, biology, and alternative fields with similar histories, systems thinking lacks a standard language that facilitates clear Communication across domains. Examples from the authors' analysis and from literature show that research in and the practice of systems thinking would benefit from a standard language and foundation of systems thinking. We have a tendency to present for discussion the results of our metathinking approach to a normal lexicon of systems thinking, i.e., the Dimensions of Systems Thinking. We also introduce key concepts as well as the observer result of systems thinking, the distinction between the scope of the analysis and therefore the boundaries of the system, and the distinction between the metrics and indices of performance of a system. The approach forward can be to discuss and discussion the weather of the language of systems thinking, to ascertain criteria for evaluating the quality of systems thinking, and to check this technique on case studies.
