On Design and Performance Analysis of a Load Balanced Optical Switch Based on Polarization Division Multiplexing PROJECT TITLE :On Design and Performance Analysis of a Load Balanced Optical Switch Based on Polarization Division MultiplexingABSTRACT:This paper presents comprehensive study on the planning and performance analysis of a load balanced optical switch. Different from alternative load balanced switches, the presented one relies on an array waveguide grating router and tunable laser utilizing polarization division multiplexing to consolidate load balancing perform and switching function in the identical linecard. A mathematical model is introduced to investigate the switch's performance in terms of packet loss likelihood, queuing delay and throughput. In depth simulations are allotted to verify the correctness of the model and to match its throughput performance with other switch fabrics. It's shown that the presented switch can achieve nearly the same throughput as output-queue switch does underneath non-uniform traffic patterns. Furthermore, an improved style of linecard and its operation are presented to solve the out-of-sequence drawback for the studied switch. Did you like this research project?
