PROJECT TITLE :
Metrocell Antennas: The Positive Impact of a Narrow Vertical Beamwidth and Electrical Downtilt
ABSTRACT:
This article discusses the positive impact that metrocell antennas with a narrow vertical beamwidth and electrical downtilt will have on heterogeneous cellular networks. Employing a model of random cell placement based on a Poisson distribution, together with an innovative 3-dimensional (three-D) building model that quantifies blockage because of shadowing, it is demonstrated that the network spectral potency and average user through-place each increase because the vertical beamwidth decreases and downtilt is applied to metrocell transmission. Moreover, the network becomes a lot of energy efficient. Importantly, these additional gains in network performance will be achieved without any cooperation or exchange of data between macrocell base stations (BSs) and metrocells.
